Don’t truncate IMF programme – Mahama tells Nana Addo

The IMF disburses US$918 million to Ghana under the three-year programme. The programme is expected to be completed by the end of 2017.

President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo must ensure that Ghana’s Extended Credit Facility arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) continues till  until the end of this year.

President Mahama who was addressing parliament in his last state of the nation address said the continuity will ensure Ghana enjoys a stable economy.

“We entered the IMF agreement with the best of intentions and it is important that we continue a diligent implementation of the IMF programme until the end of 2017.”

President Mahama said that his government could not achieve its growth target for 2016 due to the shortfalls in revenue collections.

“We could not achieve the targets we set for ourselves due to the inability to achieve revenue targets and also the  inability to draw the full expectation of oil from the Jubilee Fields”.

Nana Addo will take office as president on January 7, 2017. During the campaign Nana Addo promised to create a robust economy that will reduce the complaints of Ghanaians on economic hardships in the country.
