A driver was breath tested at more than eight times the legal drink drive limit the morning after downing a bottle of vodka.
Albert Amponsah's shocking reading is one of the highest recorded in Scotland and caused a sheriff to exclaim: "Wow."
Amponsah, 43, was spotted stumbling along the aisles and knocking items off shelves at a Tesco store in Kilmarnock.
When one concerned worker smelled drink and asked him if he was holding car keys, Amposah replied: "Why, are you going to give me a lift home?"
He drove off and when police arrived at his house his Kia Rio car was parked on the drive, reports the Daily Record .
He was breath-tested and recorded 186 microgrammes of alcohol – more than eight times the limit– before spending a night in the cells.
By the time he gave a second sample in custody, it had dropped to 160mcg.
The legal level is 22mcg.
Amponsah, of Kilmarnock, had downed a bottle of vodka before going to bed around midnight on September 22.
The next morning his wife asked him to get bread and milk for their children's breakfast and he then drove to Tesco.
Originally from Ghana, west Africa, Amponsah admitted drink driving in court last week.
Graeme Cunningham, defending, told Kilmarnock Sheriff Court: "This was a morning after reading.
"He'd been drinking before he went to bed."
Amponsah was fined £400 and banned from the road for three years.
