Xtra Large Music, same record label which signed the multi-award winning Dancehall Queen, Kaakie, for the first time has signed a male singer, Klem. His first single under the label titled “Makoma” (a twi word – Ghanaian local dialect – which means ”My Heart”) was produced by JMJ Baby, celebrated Ghanaian producer who has worked on productions for Kaakie, Samini, Demarco, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Edem, just to name a few.

Klem is a whooshing voice who just stepped on the scene at the right time. Klem who is a former housemate of the MTN Project Fame Wes Africa Competition is a phenomenal music talent. He is not just a singer but a Songwriter & a Performing Artiste as well.

The ’95 year born, real name, Clement Kofi Akuoko Sarpong Baafi is one of the 3 Ghanaians pitted against 15 Nigerians for fierce music competition and eventual fame. Unlike the others of his country—Lamine, who was recognizable from TV3 Mentor, a Ghanaian reality TV show of the same kind, and Christian, who was becoming famous for being a music reality show regular, Clem was completely fresh-faced, and those who thought his newness implied an early exit were in for no small shock.

Clemento, which became the regular chant by the studio audience after he thrilled them—which was a great many times—and which the Faculty president Joke Silva sweetly called him, made history for being the first contestant in Project Fame West Africa to record a broken leg as an occupational hazard for reality TV singers. Coming off the back of an incredible probation performance which wrenched him from eviction’s cold embrace and into the limelight, the world looked like his oyster. Here he was, dashing to rehearsals, when his foot refused friction with spilled water, his legs promptly giving way. When he crash-landed on the hard floor with a merciless thud, the automatic scream saved him some dignity when it stuck in his throat. This mishap was made worse when coupled with a previous injury he’d had on the same leg, and would render him at the mercy of crutches for the rest of the season.

And he just had to perform Michael Bolton’s “Back on My Feet Again”. I don’t know if any song has been more apt for a reality show contestant. Appearing in a wheelchair, young Clem belted out a heartfelt rendering of the classic, sent the audience into a hushed, goose bump infused trance, and left only a few dry eyes in the studio and home audience. But wait! Michael Bolton—the Michael Bolton, singer, songwriter, should’ve been knighted light years ago Michael Bolton—tweeted him—right then, while he was still on stage, before the judges could talk—a simple message that said it all: “Thank u so much”.

Klem’s composition, “Bleeding Heart”, a soulful R ‘n’ B number about love gone sour, wasted no time in taking its place among the world’s great wonders. Loads could be said about this one song, so I’ll just give the transcriptions of the comments he received the night he performed it.
Klem is a born star! His new sign to this label is a bigger stepping stone for the young singing talent (who can’t hide his joy anytime he spoke about his new found family – Xtra Large Music).
