Court convicts woman for assaulting house help
The presiding judge sentenced Okafor to nine months in prison, after she pleaded guilty to the accusation.
According to the Daily Post, Okafor "used a sharp razor blade to cut the victim on various parts of his body including his abdomen, left buttocks and thigh".
She was arrested in September 2015, by officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related matters (NAPTIP).
Okafor, who is only 29 years of age, reportedly pleaded guilty to the offence.
Justice N. Ogbonna, the presiding judge, in his ruling on the matter, said her actions is contrary to Section 2 subsection 1 of the VAPP Act.
The judge said “Section 2 subsection 1 of the VAPP Act says ‘A person who willfully causes or inflicts physical injury on another person by means of any weapon, substance or object, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 5 years or a fine not exceeding N100, 000.00 or both.”
This incident follows a list of multiple assault against domestic helps, which despite seeing widespread criticism, has continued to blossom.
