Mother tosses baby from 7th floor window

A newborn baby girl found dead in a New York City courtyard was still alive when her mother tossed her out of a seventh-floor window, law enforcement sources said on Tuesday.

Jennifer Berry of New York City, told cops that she gave birth to a stillborn baby in the shower, then threw the child out of her boyfriend’s bathroom window in The Bronx on Monday afternoon.

But the autopsy says otherwise.

According to the city’s chief medical examiner Barbara Sampson, the autopsy shows that the infant was still breathing in the apartment — and ruled the death a homicide.

“The cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries,” Dr Sampson said.

The body was found when the wife of the building's superintendent found the body of the baby when she was taking out the rubbish. The police was called to the scene at about 2.45pm

The wife of the building’s superintendent stumbled upon the baby when she was taking out the rubbish, and cops were called to the scene about 2.45pm.

Soon after Jennifer tossed the child, her boyfriend Giovanni Johnson, 28, discovered her sitting in the shower next to a pool of blood, which she insisted was from her menstrual cycle, sources said.

Mr Johnson told cops that he asked if she was pregnant, and she told him she’d had an abortion about four months ago.

“I suspected she was pregnant, but I didn’t know for sure,” Ms Berry’s stunned mother said. “I’ve been waiting for her to say something to me.”

In a strange twist, she added that her daughter used to work for Child Protective Services. Jennifer Berry, 33, has been charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter.
