Student gets raped by 'her friend'

According to investigators, Diamond Davenport, 18, took the girl, whose age has not been disclosed, to his home at gunpoint on April 23, forced her to undress and had sex with her against her will. Davenport was arrested late Monday night and made his first court appearance Tuesday (June 9).

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, the victim sent a text message to Davenport, whom she considered a "school friend," asking if he could drive her home after classes ended. Davenport agreed, according to the report, but after meeting the girl he disregarded her driving directions and took her across the Crescent City Connection bridge.

When she objected during the bridge crossing, the girl told police, Davenport reached underneath his seat for a handgun he placed on his lap. She told police she stopped questioning Davenport about where he was taking her "in fear of being hurt."

Davenport brought the girl to his home in the 2200 block of Robert E. Lee Avenue in Gentilly and once inside, she told police, she excused herself to the restroom, looking for a way to escape but finding none. She said Davenport knocked on the door, ordering her to hurry out.

The report said Davenport next ordered the girl into a bedroom, where he forced her to undress, lay on the bed and sexually assaulted her. Court and police records indicate the alleged incident occurred at 12:30 p.m. and was reported at 3:48 p.m.

The victim told investigators she had never dated Davenport, nor had any prior sexual relations with him before the alleged attack. She told police she had been held against her will, inside the car and in Davenport's house.

Efforts to contact a Landry-Walker spokesman to determine whether Davenport also had attended the school were not immediately successful.

Davenport was booked early Tuesday with aggravated rape and second-degree kidnapping, charges that could carry a life sentence in Louisiana upon conviction. His bond was set at $400,000, and a preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for June 30.

Court records indicate Davenport was indicted on a charge of armed robbery in July 2013, but 13 months later was permitted to plead guilty to a lesser charge of theft of under $500. Judge Arthur Hunter ordered Davenport's ankle monitor removed and, according to court records, gave Davenport a suspended sentence of one day, along with a court order that he not possess or purchase a firearm while on inactive probation.
