Since declaring 2019 as the 'year of return' to mark 400 years of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade in the history of the black man, several members of the diaspora and from the Caribbeans have visit slave castles in Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo expressed hope that the country's infrastructure will be able handle the number of people that come

“I am very happy to see the ‘Year of Return’ programme. We’re expecting lots of people; about hundreds of thousands who are going to come between now and the end of the year.

“I’m hoping that our infrastructure will be able to handle and deal with [them] but it has also made a big boost to our tourism revenue,” he noted.
