Confirmed figures indicate that 61 people have died and 25 are alive receiving treatment

The Kintampo accident which claimed 61 lives and injured 25 others was caused by an unlawful overtaking the Brong Ahafo Regional police Command has said.

The PRO for  the police command in the region ASP Christopher Tawiah speaking on Citi Fm says preliminary investigations reveal the MMT bus driver tried to over take "in a very sharp curve" on the Kintampo high way.

This is contrary to reports that the driver hit a cow and lost control and subsequently colliding with the truck driver. Other reports also indicate that the brake of the bus was faulty.

President John Dramani Mahama early on tweeted a message of condolence to the bereaved family. So did the main opposition leader Nana Akufo Addo.
