Doctors strike has become an arena for senseless politics - Nduom

Dr. Papa Kwesi says the “senseless politics” being played around the doctors’ strike must stop

Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom

The 2012 Presidential candidate of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom has described the strike action by doctors as unfortunate.

According to him, the “senseless politics” being played around the doctors’ strike must stop because lives are being lost.

The leader of PPP in a Facebook post stated that the business magnate appealed to the doctors to go back to work while negotiations proceed, adding “to the doctors, and on behalf of the PPP, I say forget the politicians and their insults, including those who sought to lower your credibility by leaking the offer you put on the table for negotiations to the media and the public.”

It is so unfortunate. Medical doctors in the public sector are on strike. Lives have been lost. Many are suffering, mostly the poor who form the majority of the Ghanaian population. And what is going on? Instead of addressing the merits or demerits of the demands of the medical doctors, this public health problem has become another arena for senseless politics with NDC and NPP officials tripping over each other to score cheap political points! Why walk over the needs of hundreds of thousands of sick people to gain political profit? Health is wealth as is widely known all over the world. So let's get serious about the people's health and cut out the politics.

To the doctors, and on behalf of the PPP, I say forget the politicians and their insults, including those who sought to lower your credibility by leaking the offer you put on the table for negotiations to the media and the public. They just can't get rid of their inferior tactics mentality. Negotiate in good faith but go back to work - many lives depend on you.

To all the negotiators, I say, do not violate and tear apart the Single Spine's guiding principles. Keep it intact. If that is thrown away, Ghana will not work.
