Divers in Indonesia have recovered the black box of the crashed AirAsia Flight QZ8501, officials say.

The Indonesian transport ministry also stated that the cockpit voice recorder has also been located but has not been retrieved yet.

"The navy divers in Jadayat state boat have succeeded in finding a very important instrument, the black box of AirAsia QZ8501," a senior ministry official, Tonny Budiono said.

The Head of Indonesia's search and rescue agency, Bambang Soelistyo also said:

“I received information from the National Transport Safety Committee chief that at 07:11 (00:11 GMT), we succeeded in bringing up part of the black box that we call the flight data recorder.”

The tail of the plane was lifted out of the Java Sea on Saturday, January 10, with giant balloons and a crane. Officials also stated that 48 bodies had so far been recovered from the plane’s wreckage.

The ill-fated flight went missing from radar on December 28 with 162 people on board.
