While there were several moves during the January transfer window, the summer transfer window also brought its own surprises.

From Asamoah Gyan to Baba Rahman to Joseph Aidoo, we bring you the top seven Ghanaian football transfers of 2019:

1.   Kevin-Prince Boateng (Sassuolo to Barcelona)

Kevin-Prince Boateng has had a very eventful 2019, having made transfers in both the winter and summer transfer windows.

However, there is no doubt that his move to Barcelona in January 2019 was the biggest transfer story during that period.

What started as a rumour shockingly ended with the Spanish giants signing the Ghana international on a six-month loan deal. Although Boateng found very limited game time at Barca, the move remains one of the biggest by any Ghanaian footballer in recent years.

2.   Jordan Ayew (Swansea City to Crystal Palace)

In July 2019, right after starring in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Jordan Ayew completed a dream move to Crystal Palace.

The 28-year-old had spent the previous season on loan at Selhurst Park, scoring just two goals in 25 appearances.

However, Jordan’s impressive performances at the AFCON pushed Crystal Palace to make the move permanent.

The striker subsequently joined the Eagles in a deal worth £2.5 million and has since been one of the club’s best players this season.

3.   Bernard Tekpetey (Paderborn to Schalke O4)

Young Ghanaian winger Bernard Tekpetey was also involved in a very big move in 2019, although things have since gone south.

The 22-year-old joined Bundesliga side Schalke O4 from SC Paderborn in July 2019, in a deal worth €2.5 million.

Rather bizarrely, Tekpetey was loaned out to Fortuna Dusseldorf just a week after joining Schalke 04. That, however, it does not negate the fact he is still a Schalke player.

4.   Joseph Aidoo (Genk to Celta Vigo)

Joseph Aidoo has grown to become a key player for the Black Stars. At 24, the centre-back is already a starter for the national team.

It was, however, in 2019 that everything came together for him. Having won the Belgian league with Genk, Aidoo moved to Celta Vigo last summer.

The defender joined the Spanish topflight side in July for a sum of €8 million. The Ghanaian has so far played every game for Celta Vigo this season.

5.   Asamoah Gyan (Free agent to NorthEast United)

Asamoah Gyan may currently be in the twilight of his career, but he is still a man whose stock has not fallen that much.

The striker joined Indian side NorthEast United FC on a free transfer in September 2019 after leaving Turkish club Kayserispor in June.

Having built a phenomenal reputation in Asia, playing for Al Ain, Al Ahli and Shanghai SIPG, Gyan opted to add to India to his collection.

The 34-year-old has already netted twice in the Indian Super League and it looks like he will do well there.

6.   Baba Rahman (Chelsea to Mallorca)

It is sometimes difficult to explain, but Abdul Baba Rahman is still very much a player of Chelsea.

The left-back joined the Blues four years ago, but has so far failed to cement his place and has been sent on loan severally.

In 2019, Baba went on loan twice, first joining Ligue 1 side Reims in January, before completing another loan move to Real Mallorca in July.

Baba has been blighted by a series of niggling injuries but his move to Mallorca allows him the opportunity to rebuild his career.

7.   Kevin-Prince Boateng (Sassuolo to Fiorentina)

Kevin-Prince Boateng features again for the second time following his move to Serie A club Fiorentina.

Following his unsuccessful loan spell at Barcelona, the former Ghana international quickly joined La Viola from Sassuolo.

The move was reportedly worth just €1.million, but it already looks like a big bargain for the Italian side.
