Akufo-Addo expects nothing but gold from Black Starlets

The Ghana president wants the Black Starlets to go all the way in the upcoming tournament.

President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, has been impressed with the output of the Black Starlets so far and wants to see the team lift the U-17 world cup.

The 2017 U-17 World Cup will be hosted by India from October 6 to 26, with the Black Starlets aiming to become champions of the competition for the third time.

Ghana has been drawn in a tough group which contains hosts India, as well as USA and Columbia in group A.

However, the team has been backed by president Akufo-Addo to go all the way to lift the trophy.

Speaking to the Black Starlets contingent at the Ghanaman Soccer School of Excellence, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah, said the president is very much interested in their performance during the tournament.

According to him, government will do its best to ensure that the team lacks nothing going into the tournament.

"To the Black Starlets, we are proud that you have qualified for the World Cup after 10 years and this is a golden opportunity for all of us to make ourselves proud," Hon. Asiamah said."Your job is to lift high the image of Ghana and make a name for yourselves. On our part as government, everything has been put in place to ensure that you go out there, excel and conquer the world.

"The President himself has called me and I have briefed him about preparations made to ensure that you go out there to conquer the world.

The Black Starlets came in second-place at the U-17 Africa Nations tournament, and will be hoping to go a step further on the world stage.
