“There was a fault with national supply which cause all the regions to lose power at about 9:40 pm.”

He added that they lost many generators across the country due to the surge.

However, speaking to Accra-based Citi FM Mr Amuna said: “we would have to go through our system to indicate exactly what happened but the concentration has been on restoring power to the nation.”

“We started the restoration programme till about 1 am when we were above 1,000 megawatts but there was a swing in the power system again and we lost some generation but we are in the process of restoring power” he added.

At about 9:40 pm on Wednesday (May 3, 2017) Ghana experienced a nationwide blackout.

Many Ghanaians took to social media to comment on the development.

The Nana Addo-led government has also come under attack especially after they criticised the then Mahama administration for dumsor.

Meanwhile, Mr Amuna said that power has been restored to about 70 percent of the country. He said the other areas will have power by 10:00 am.
