Some of the young girls engaged in the sex business are believed to be between 10 and 12 years.
They were arrested after a combined team of security forces and the Metropolitan Assembly in collaboration with the Metropolitan Security Council (METSEC) undertook a special exercise.
The latest action comes after Chief Executive of the metropolis declared war on prostitution in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to close down all drug and prostitution joints in the area.
The suspects are currently in police custody being screened for investigations.
The activities of the sex workers have become a talk in Tamale.
Apart from the police barracks the prostitutes operate, they also work in areas including the Bank of Ghana road, Victory Cinema area around Aboabo, Nyohini, Tohajie, and the enclave near Alhassan Hotel.
However, the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29) section 274 states that "Any person who — (a) knowingly lives wholly or in part on the earnings of prostitution; or (b) is proved to have, for the purposes of gain, exercised control, direction or influence over the movements of a prostitute in such manner as to aid, abet or compel the prostitution with any person or generally, shall be guilty of a misdemeanour."
