DKM customers besiege office in Sunyani

Angry customers of DKM Financial Services in the Brong Ahafo regional capital, Sunyani besieged one of the offices of the company, rioting to demand the release of their savings.

The customers who have been waiting for the release of their monies since September say they cannot wait any longer.

They told Joy News’ Precious Semevoh that the suffering and hardship they have had to endure due to the company’s failure to release their monies cannot continue.

The customers have refused to leave the company’s premises until their monies are released.

A male worker of the company was beaten up by the livid customers. His only crime was relaying information to them that the company would not be able to disburse money to them today.

The customers have also destroyed properties belonging to the company, smashing glass doors and windows with bricks.

A combined police and military force have been deployed to the premises to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, patients at the Rabito Clinic – owned by father of DKM’s Chief Executive Officer – have been held hostage.

Efforts to get management of the facility to comment on the issue have been unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the Techiman office of the company has also been locked up leaving customers stranded outside.

The customers who have travelled across the country to assess their funds say they will spend the night there if need be and have vowed to attack any staff of the company.

The situation there is worrying because there are no police officers at the Techiman branch to forestall any strike by customers.

The BoG banned operations of the company in May for violating the Banking Act 2004 (Act 673).

According to the BoG, the company carried its operations in a manner that was detrimental to the interest of depositors.

The move also banned customers of the microfinance company from making withdrawals from any of its branches nationwide.

The ban was however lifted in September and since then some customers have fruitlessly journeyed to the company on many occasions to withdraw their funds but end up with excuses each time.
