Ghana not good enough to win AFCON 2019 - Sammy Kuffour

The former Black Stars defender believes Ghana must rather be targeting the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

According to him, the current crop of Black Stars players are just not good enough to compete on the continent.

Kuffour lined up for the Black Stars for over a decade, playing in numerous AFCON tournaments as well Ghana’s debut appearance at the World Cup in 2006.

And the former Bayern Munich rearguard believes it will take a hard deal of work for Ghana to once again return to the glory days.

According to him, the nation must rather use the next AFCON to prepare and rather target winning the 2021 edition.

“Our target must be 2021," the 41-year-old is quoted as saying by Goal.

"The current crop cannot win in 2019.

“I think we need to do more, we need to prepare very well and make sure we are ready.

“It is not easy as we think. Every country will be going for the title and they will be preparing very well and so we must also do well to prepare.”

Ghana currently boasts four AFCON titles, but have failed to lift the coveted trophy since 1982, stretching the nation’s trophy drought to 25 years.
