Goalkeeper Richard Ofori signs three-year deal with Maritzburg United

Ofori joins the Team of Choice on a three-year deal from Ghana Premier League side Wa All Stars, with a one-year option in the contract.

South African club Maritzburg United have completed the signing of Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

The announcement was made on Maritzburg’s social media platforms on Thursday morning.

Last week, it was reported that Ofori was set to conclude a deal with the Chloorkop-based club, following the departure of Wayne Sandilands to Orlando Pirates.

However, sources revealed yesterday that the player is eager for regular game-time and would consider a move to the Team Of Choice and turn down a move to the CAF Champions League winners.

Maritzburg have since wasted no time in adding the player to Head Coach Fadlu David’s books for the new season and confirmed the signing of the goalkeeper this morning.

Earlier this year, Ofori was part of Avram Grant’s 2017 African Nations Cup squad, but did not feature in the tournament which was hosted by Gabon.

Ofori is likely to take the number one jersey at Maritzburg after the club parted ways with Virgil Vries recently, with competition provided by Bongani Mpandle and youngster Lindokuhle Mathebula.
