Aduana Stars are 2016/17 Ghana champions

Aduana Stars have won the 2016/17 Ghana Premier League with a game to spear as they defeated Elmina Sharks 2-1 at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa on Sunday.

Goals from Rashid Abdul and Sam Adams ensured victory for the Ogyaa Boys as they secured their second league title after winning the maiden trophy back in 2009/10 season.

Benjamin Tweneboa scored the consolation goal for Elmina Sharks.

Elmina Sharks begun the game on the front foot as they outplayed the home side but Aduana Stars maintained a very strong defense as they survived the early pressure.

The game was indeed a cagey affair but Elmina Sharks got the early when Benjamin Tweneboah delivered a superb strike to put the away side ahead on the stroke of half time.

Aduana Stars responded very well in the second half as the mounted pressure on the Sharks defence in search of the equalizer. The Ogyaa Boys got the deserved equalizer through Rashid Abdul who converted from close range to restore parity.

Sam Adamss converted a penalty on the 78th minute mark claimed all three points for the home side as the marched onto their second league triumph.

Aduana Stars will face Ashgold in the last match of the season at the Len Clay Sports Stadium next Sunday.
