Ghana has dropped to 74th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, released on April 1, 2026, slipping two places from its previous position.
The Black Stars remain 14th in Africa, but the ranking highlights ongoing struggles with consistency despite securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decline follows a challenging international window, where Ghana faced stronger opponents, exposing gaps in organisation and match sharpness.
While the team won its qualifying group in late 2025 to earn a World Cup berth, results over the past year have been mixed.
Ghana also failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and temporarily fell to 77th before a slight recovery.
The recent dip coincides with changes to the technical setup. The Ghana Football Association parted ways with head coach Otto Addo on March 31, a day after Ghana’s defeat to Germany, and a replacement has yet to be announced.
On the continental stage, Ghana continues to trail leading African teams such as Morocco, Senegal, and Nigeria, all ranked higher globally.
At the top of the world rankings, France has overtaken Spain to claim the number one spot following recent international fixtures.
Ghana now faces the task of stabilising performance and technical direction ahead of the World Cup, with preparations expected to accelerate once a new head coach is appointed.
