The Ashanti regional police command is on high alert after it gathered intelligence that there is plan to set the city’s Central Market ablaze.
The Acting Commander for the Manhyia Division Supt. Nana Dr. Nyamekye Adani Ameyaw told journalists “we’ve gathered intelligence some few days ago that some people for whatever reason best known to themselves want to set the Kumasi Central Market ablaze”.
The market which has recorded several fires in the past has seen a lot of traders lose properties worth millions of cedis. In the first half of 2016 the Central Market has recorded three fires.
Supt. Nana Dr. Nyamekye Adani Ameyaw said they have deployed both uniformed and plain clothed officer to the Market to tighten security there.
“I’m sounding a note of caution to anybody who has that intention that if the person dares and we get him or her red-handed I for one will make the person come to the public dead.”
