Nana Addo in a tweet some few hours after the death of the Police Commander said “Saddened by the news of ACP Awuni's death. Condolences to his family; may he rest in peace. Ghana has lost a fine, principled Police Officer.”
The Eastern Regional Police commander died at the Police hospital in Accra this morning.
Pulse.com.gh has learned DCOP Awuni had been sick for a couple of weeks.
He was admitted at a hospital in Koforidua and was later transferred to the Police hospital in Accra where he passed on.

DCOP Awuni took charge of the Eastern Region as commander about two months ago after a police reshuffle in November 2015.
Prior to that he was the Director General of the MTTD after serving as the commander of the MTTD for several years.
