Parliament’s Works and Housing Committee has summoned the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Kofi Adda, to answer for the ongoing rationing of water across the country.
The Minister is set to appear before the House on Tuesday, together with management of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), to give details on water rationing programme started two weeks ago.
Ranking member of the Committee, Sampson Ahi told Accra-based Joy FM that Parliament is worried about the water shortage that has hit the nation in recent weeks.

According to him, the House wants to know about details of the development, as well as how the Water Ministry and the GWCL intend to address the problem.
“We have invited the Minister for Water Resources and Sanitation as well as the management of Ghana Water Company to come and brief us on the water situation in the country and also to tell us plans they are putting in place to address the problem," Mr. Ahi said.
Some parts of the country, especially in the Northern Region, have been hit very hard by the water shortages.
Meanwhile, a statement from the GWCL has indicated that the situation could become worse if the dry season continues.

Communications Director of the Company, Stanley Martey, attributed the water shortages to the pollution of water bodies in the country.
According to him, there is currently no guarantee that the situation will get better unless it rains.
Mr. Martey further disclosed that the GWCL will soon roll out a timetable to provide a guide for consumers as to when the tap for each area will be opened or closed.
