Blazing sounds made by thriving lads didnât watch 2018 pass by without contributing their quota to the music industry.
From heavy-bass laced hip-hop to the complicated afrobeats sounds made of Kora, Talking drum, Balafon, Shekere and Djembe, this year has produced wonders â most of which were surprises.
1. Wendy Shay
Wendy Shay will die if she leaves Rufftown records - Prophet
She was thought to be the replacement of the late Ebony Reigns after her signing but has lived beyond criticsâ inexorable prognosis.
Wendy Shay exploded instantly when launched herself onto the scene with âUber Driverâ in June under Bulletâs RuffTown Records/MidasTouch Inc. â the same label which catered for the âMaame Hw3â hitmaker.
She followed up with another banger âBedroom Commandoâ, âAstalavistaâ and later recruited Sarkodie and Kuami Eugene for âPsalm 35â.
However, her career was nearly rocked by a sex scandal with her manager Bullet but thanks to her PR tactics, she pulled a great collaboration with Eno Barony on âThe Boy Is Mineâ to clear the mess.
She concluded the year with another jam, titled âMasakraâ. Her dominance as a new artiste just a recherchĂ© â the industry hardly sees this.
2. Kelvyn Boy
After grabbing the âUnsung Artisteâ accolade at this yearâs Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, the Burniton Music Group signee has never had a rest.
Kelvyn Boy kick-started the year with an impressive afrobeats jam, titled âAfrobeatsâ and followed up another blistering dance vibe titled âCoffeeâ.
Aside from his busy club tours, an international tour with Stonebwoy and massive collaborations, he managed to maintain his relevance with his latest, titled âGingerâ.
What a great year for Kelvyn!
3. eShun
eShun tops Central Music Awards 2018 with 8 nominations
Despite losing out the âUnsung Artisteâ award to Kuami Eugene at the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, eShun, one of the most outstanding and current best female songstresses, didnât give up.
Known for her 2017 hit single, âSomeone Loves Meâ, which has half a million views on YouTube, eShun started the year with a reggae melody titled âFa Me Korâ.
She followed up with âFakyeâ and âI Wantâ and her current hit, âAkyiaâ.
Her hard work earned her 8 nominations at this yearâs Central Music Awards â making her the only female to garner that number of nominations.
What a way to end the year!
4. Kofi Mole
âFie biaa Mensah wom//I do some things I don't remember//My boys make ready for whatever//Make dem no this sh** be forever...(this sh** be forever)â this is one of the lyrics on the lips of every music lover â and Kofi Mole is the mastermind.
The Ground Up Chale artiste who is known for his ferocious freestyle has enjoyed massive airplay with just one song which features BET Award-nominee, Kwesi Arthur.
He gets the crowd yearning for more whenever he hits the stage and itâs incredible to witness him perform his biggest career song so far.
5. DopeNation
Dopenation release new song 'Naami'
One of the biggest things to have happened to the industry this year is VO Nation labelâs duo DopeNation.
The group made vocalists and record producers, Twist and B2, kick-started the year with afrobeats banger âEishâ and followed up with âNaamiâ before hooking up with Nigeriaâs Olamide for the remix.
Itâs been a great year for the 2018 VGMA âUnsungâ nominees.
6. Eddie Khae
Eddie Khae
He is the creator of the second biggest viral dances after Guilty Beatz international hit, âAkwaabaâ. Heâs the man who got Bola Ray on the dancefloor with Becca at Sarkodieâs wedding.
Eddie Khae with just single dance hit, titled âDo The Danceâ has captured most senior high schools across the country.
