In fact, her father actually paid busloads of children to stand outside the tennis courts which she trained to shout curses and discouragement for hours while she trained.
Yet, she still rose to achieve 21 grand slam titles, a record no other player in the sport has come close to since Stephie Graf.
In a new ad for Beats by Dre, Williams shows the personal cost of triumphing over hate on a daily basis. She has been shamed for her body, gender, and nearly every part of her body and identity.
In the advert, Williams wakes up to the pinging of her Apple Watch and a TV pundit doing what they do best – claiming that she has lost a huge chunk of her ‘fearless’ game. However, Williams goes on with her day and demonstrates just what it takes to be the true undisputed champ.
