- Former Saturday Night Live star Horatio Sanz and stand-up comedian Brian Posehn both made cameos in the first episode of The Mandalorian.
- Sanz played a blue bounty target alien, and Posehn was a taxi-speeder driver.
- Showrunner Jon Favreau has a background in comedy, so it's not shocking to see cameos here and thereand we expect more to come.
So you've just signed up for Disney+ . Relatable. You scrolled your way over to The Mandalorian, Star Wars megafan that you are, and then clicked play. But before you even see the title character start to kick some ass, you see someone else: his target. A blue goon named Mythrol, this target is a quick talker, one who seems like maybe in another life he just might be a comedian. And, well, granted that he's played by former Saturday Night Live castmember Horatio Sanz, you'd be absolutely correct.
He's not the only comedian making his way into The Mandalorian eitherwithin a few minutes, both Mythrol and The Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) are hopping into a Taxi speeder driven by Brian Posehn, a stand-up comedian who's also appeared in The Sarah Silverman Program, Mr. Show and New Girl, among other shows.
Posehn's appearance in the show is notablehe's a longtime Star Wars fan, but also one who openly voiced his frustration with the "toxic" fanbase after the release of 2017's The Last Jedi.
The comedian told the Nashville Scene in 2018 that while he hated the prequel trilogy, he's loved the four feature films that have come out since 2015and that the entire discourse has gotten really ugly.
"I kinda find it funny Ive talked to an old friend who loved the prequels the whole time I was hating the prequels, and now hes super mad about the current movies, and it makes my old nerd heart happy that these guys are knowing the anguish that I felt," he told the Scene. "But I think theyre wrong! I think Im right. I like the good stuff and I hate the bad stuff, and I think its good again, and I think these guys are not only toxic but off-base."

It's not hard to believe how huge a fan Posehn is when you see the selfie he posted to Twitter yesterday morning, posing next to an image of himself on his TVthe man looks absolutely giddy to be involved.
"Ecstatic nerd in nerd cave freaking out over being in Star Wars canon while family sleeps," he wrote. "Holy shit! # "

Sanz, who starred on SNL for 8 seasons, is a key focus of the first episode 's opening sequenceuntil he tries to outsmart our Mandalorian and gets trapped in Carbonite (just like Han Solo).

The comedic cameos are funny, and random, but not totally unexpectedwe know that Bill Burr will also make an appearance at some point, too. Given showrunner Jon Favreau's connection to the comedy worldhe started with movies like Swingers and famously appeared on Friends as one of Monica's boyfriends it's not a shock that he'd try to work some fun comedic easter eggs into his new Star Wars sandbox.
Sanz is a long-time Star Wars fan; looking through his Tweets, you can see that he's shared his thoughts on the movies several times over the years.

We can only hope for more comedic cameos in the future. John Mulaney would make a great Storm Trooper...
