We Have No Reason to Believe Laura Dern DIDN'T See Baby Yoda at a Basketball Game

Laura Dern Says She Saw Baby Yoda at an NBA Game

Believe it or not, a month ago the phrase 'Baby Yoda' would've read as gibberish. Sure, 'Baby' and 'Yoda' had meanings of their own, but as soon as The Mandalorian launched, the two put together made for a late dark horse contender for 2019's most popular meme , with each passing week and episode of the Star Wars series bringing more scenes of the little green guy, and, thus, more meme material. The latest to get in on the mix is a member of the Star Wars family herself, Laura Dern, who last night at the Gotham Independent Film Awards told Variety that she saw Baby Yoda at an NBA basketball game. OK, Laura!

Dern, who played Vice Admiral Holdo in 2017's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, was asked if she'd seen Baby Yoda, which, of course she answered in the positive. How could anyone not? Then the nitty gritty begun: is Baby Yoda a he or a she? Laura had a powerful answer: "I don't know, but I think he was at a basketball game."

Her comment was met with a legitimate five seconds of pure, confused silence. "That's all I'm going to say," she clarified afterwards. Thank you, Laura. That was all she had to give us, but at the very least she filled us in, ever-so-slightly more. "I think I saw him at a basketball game," she said again. "It was NBA."

And, well, as anyone who follows the film or television knows, Laura Dern doesn't lie. She was in the show Big Little Lies, and yes, maybe her character lied, but Laura Dern doesn't lie. You don't get to be in Blue Velvet, and Twin Peaks, and Jurassic Park, and tell a lie! Sorry, I don't make the rules.

So, let's instead consider how, exactly, Laura Dernwho is getting award buzz for her role in Netflix's Marriage Story, alongside Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson saw Baby Yoda at a basketball game.

Theory 1: Laura Dern saw someone dressed as Baby Yoda.

Possible. Very possible. But if Laura Dern was at a basketball game and saw someone dressed as Baby Yoda, chances are that person would've also been photographed, right? And that photograph almost definitely would've gone viral, right? I mean, every single Baby Yoda piece of content has gotten 4000 automatic retweets, so it's hard to believe this one.

Theory 2: Laura Dern was just really excited about Star Wars, you guys.

This is sort of the same principle as, like, a mirage. You know when you get really excited about something and start seeing it in front of your eyes? That's what Laura was experiencing. No, Baby Yoda wasn't actually there, but she really wanted him (or her?) to be there. Come on, don't we all?

Theory 3: Baby Yoda was actually at the basketball game and Laura Dern was kind enough to share that truth with us.

This is the most likely option, y'all. Come onBaby Yoda is a man of the people, so he wouldn't sit courtside just to get photographed by all the Paparazzi out looking for him; he'd be sitting in the nosebleeds, among the people. Laura looked up, andvoila!there was Baby Yoda. Watching basketball. Legendary stuff.
