Person Discovers 1,000-Pound Tiger While Trying to Find a Place to Smoke Weed

A person trying to smoke some weed in peace got the shock of their life on Monday when they ended up coming face to face with an overweight tiger.

Having entered an abandoned house in Houston to smoke, the individual (who has been identified only as a concerned citizen) called 311. Then came the more challenging part: convincing the authorities that they werent hallucinating.

They were trying to get into this house to smoke marijuana, said Jason Alderete, a sergeant with the Houston Police Department. We questioned them as to whether they were under the effects of the drugs or they actually saw a tiger. They saw a tiger in this building, this vacant house thats obviously been abandoned for some time.

The female tiger, estimated to weigh approximately 1000 lbs, was living in a cage too small for an animal of her size, and had to be tranquilized and towed out of the property. She was taken to BARC, Houstons animal rescue and shelter facility. Today was our lucky day and the tigers, a spokesperson for animal control told ABC13s Mayra Moreno , who described the conditions the tiger was found in as deplorable.

We deal with, for the most part, puppies and kittens. Very, very rarely do we take in a tiger, Lara Cottingham, chief of staff at Houstons Administration & Regulatory Affairs Department, told USA Today .

Houston Zoo were unable to take the tiger, but the story does have a happy ending, with KHOU reporting that a local Texas animal sanctuary will be able to give her a home.
