NRL leaders the Cronulla Sharks registered a 15th win in a row, thrashing the rock-bottom Newcastle Knights 36-4 at Shark Park on Sunday.

The Sharks' streak now runs over four months' worth of rugby league, and included the 62-0 win over the Knights back in May.

Outscoring their opponents eight tries to one, the Sharks became just the third side in NRL history to put together a 15-game winning run.

Jack Bird started the scoring as early as the sixth minute, Sosaia Feki extending the advantage before the interval with his 13th try of the season.

The Knights had shown plenty of promise in the first half, but were unable to penetrate the Sharks' defence, ranked fourth in the Premiership.

Ben Barba, Gerard Beale and Bird crossed within 13 minutes of the restart to highlight the Sharks' dominance and birthday boy Valentine Holmes got in on the act with a quickfire double to celebrate turning 21 in style.

Goal kicking was the only aspect that let the Sharks down. In the absence of James Maloney due to a groin injury, Chad Townsend only successfully added the extras twice.

Nathan Ross touched down to spare some of the Knights' blushes but Barba would cap the win after the siren to complete a fine day's work for the ladder leaders.

Wests Tigers beat the St George-Illawarra Dragons 25-12 in a battle of sides hoping to keep pace with the top eight.

The Dragons raced into an early 8-0 lead, but the Tigers were ahead by 10 at the half-time hooter thanks to tries from David Nofoaluma, Luke Brooks and James Tedesco.

Wests stood firm in the face of intense Dragons pressure after the break and Mitch Moses' electric breakaway set up Josh Aloiai's maiden NRL try to put the Tigers in control.

A late Moses drop goal ended any hopes of a late Dragons comeback, moving the Tigers above their opponents and within two points of the top eight.
