He added that the desire to raise revenue should not be allowed to kill business and cause unemployment.
âGhana should focus on providing tax incentives for increasing production and generating employment,â he said. âIn the process, revenue can be raised from corporate taxesâŠwhat we should not allow to happen is the desire to generate revenue to kill businesses and cause unemployment.â
âTo demonstrate our focus on productivity and jobs for the youth in Ghana, particularly graduates, we should introduce employment tax credit scheme to provide incentive for companies that employ fresh graduates,â he added.
Speaking at a student forum at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Bawumia said an operational national identification and good addressing system will also help drive growth and build new businesses that will employ graduates.
He said the mortgage market has a great potential of solving Ghana's high unemployment.
Bawumia also highlighted a favourable trade and industrial policy that supports local industries and focuses on production and employment, with policies like eliminating import duties on raw materials and manufacturing equipment for key industries.
He noted that an NPP government will pursue macroeconomic stability and debt sustainability to provide the fiscal space for investment and initiatives that boost business and for lower interest rates.
In addition, he said prioritizing agriculture and ensuring value addition to raw materials will be key under an NPP administration.
