Adrian Mannarino will face fourth seed Benoit Paire in the second round of the Open de Nice Cote d'Azur after coming from behind to beat Robin Haase 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 6-4 on Sunday.
At 5-4 down in the opening set, Mannarino survived three break points, but his efforts proved in vain when Haase prevailed in the tie-breaker.
The Frenchman, who saved eight of 12 break points faced in total, then came out on top in a remarkable run of three games won to love on the opponent's serve to clinch the second, and rounded off the win with an emphatic service game to convert his first match point.
In the day's only other first-round match, Victor Estrella Burgos defeated Denis Kudla 6-3 6-2.
The Dominican will now face Joao Sousa or Quentin Halys in the next round.
