New governor of the Bank of Ghana appointed

A renowned international economist at the African Development Bank Dr. Ernest Addison has been appointed to take over as the new governor of Bank of Ghana.

He becomes the 15th Governor to be appointed to the high office of the Bank of Ghana.

The new governor will be replacing the outgoing governor Dr. Abdul Nashiru Issahaku whose resignation takes effect from April 1, 2017.

A statement from the presidency signed by Director of Communications Eugene Arhin said:

"In order not to have a vacuum at the top of such an important state institution, the president, in accordance with Article 183 (4) (a) of the constitution, has appointed Dr Ernest Kwamina Yedu Addison as Governor of the Bank of Ghana, subject to consultation with the Council of State."

Until 2011, Dr. Addison worked at the Bank of Ghana as the Director of Research for 8 years.

After leaving the central bank, he joined the African Development Bank (AfDB).

He has been at his current position for the past 6 years and is in charge as the Lead Economist, Regional Director General—South of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The international economist Dr. Addison, is credited with major reforms at the Research Department of the Bank of Ghana between 2003 and 2011 as director of the department.

He was also a Chief Economist with the West African Monetary Institute from 2000-2003.

Dr. Addison is a product of Mfantsipim School in the Central Region, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Ghana, Legon.

He also earned his Masters in Economics from the Cambridge University where he was awarded of Philosophy (MPhil) in Economics.

He is credited with several publications on economics and also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Economics.

He got his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), Economics, from 1989-1993 at McGill University.
