Mahamadu Bawumia, Npp Flagbearer Aspirant

The National Secretary of the party said though they do not know the truth or otherwise, of the allegation, the Electoral Commission must investigate the matter.

Dr Bawumia is being accused of enticing two workers of the Electoral Commission with a total sum of GHC10,000 in order to verify his voter registration status in the comfort of his home.

The two workers of the Electoral Commission are believed to have broken the law, and Dr Bawumia accused of bribery. Two EC officials were sacked after the incident.

Though the NPP has vehemently denied this allegation the EC has maintained the two sacked officials flouted the rule.

General Secretary of the NDC Asiedu Nketiah said the law must be no respecter of persons.

"We will push for the laws of election to be applied to everyone without fear or favour. We are leaving the Electoral Commission to do their investigation and then whatever will come out of the investigation we will pursue it."

Asiedu Nketiah said if the findings prove the allegation is true, the Dr Bawumia would have to explain his intent for doing that.

"If the allegation turns out to be true then Dr Bawumia would have to answer why he is projecting the NDC to be the party that carries registration kits across the border to register Togolese to divert people's attention to NDC and then he will go and influence the same EC officials to carry the kit to his house. It is an illegal activity if it is proven then the laws must be wholly applied."
