He nearly joined Real Madrid last season

Kepa has joined Chelsea but the goalkeeper was close to joining Real Madrid in January for a fee less than €20 million.

The 23-year-old was the subject of a bid from the European champions sone months ago with a deal being agreed with Athletic Bilbao.

In fact, he passed a medical at Madrid until then manager Zinedine Zidane decided to veto the move, saying “did not want a goalkeeper in the middle of the season“.

He’s now the world‘s most expensive goalie

Kepa becomes the world‘s most expensive shot-stopper following his £71 million move from Athletic Bilbao to Chelsea.

His price tag has now trumped the £65 million that Liverpool paid to sign Alisson Becker from AS Roma.

He used to be a hunter

Another amazing thing about Kepa that you may not have known is the fact that he used to combine football with hunting birds.

He would hunt for goldfinches and train them to sing. He was good at it, too: Kepa’s birds, named Oker, Rocky and Raikkonen, twice won competitions, in 2008 and 2010.
