President John Mahama says his belief and support for women empowerment has reflected in the appointment of women into his governmnet.
The president was speaking on RFI's English Service Accra Live PM.
He was speaking on Accra Live PM, RFI English Service's Paris Live PM being recorded in Ghana.
“Women are a significant proportion of our population. You can’t have more than half of your population playing second fiddle or being disempowered."
Explaining why he supports women empowerment the president says society will be impacted positively if more women are empowered.
“As soon as I had the opportunity I made sure that I appointed a lot of women into my government and they hold some of the responsible positions in my government.” He said
President Mahama also indicated that these women in his government are excelling in their roles.
When asked by RFI's Daniel Singleton what he is doing to ensure the promotion of women in the private sector, President Mahama acknowledged that women leading the private sector are in the minority but they are 'beginning to breakthrough.'
He said he will never apologize for supporting women empowerment and will continue to do so "as long as i have the power and influence to do so."
