Okwawu beat Liberty Professionals to set a date with Bechem United in the final of the MTN FA Cup
The Dansoman based side went into the game with the hope of replicating their Premier League form but they were given a good run for their money by the Okwawu based club who before meeting George Lamptey’s side had crashed out two Premier League clubs – Dreams FC and WAFA.
Liberty started the game as the brightest side as they dominated play but they failed to make their possession count on the score sheet in the early minutes of the game.
Okwaku United also had their moments in the game which they fluffed the chances they had. The Premier League side then total took control of the game as they pinned the second-tier side at their own half and on the stroke of half-time Latif Blessing benefited from a defensive blunder to score the first goal in the game.
In the second half, Okwawu United re-strategized as they bombarded Liberty Professionals with plethora of attacks but the Dansoman based side withstood the pressure.
The persistent attacking football by the former Premier League campaigners paid off as in the 72 minutes Maclean Badu pulled even for the “Asase Aban lads.”
Late in the game Liberty mounted an intense pressure in search for the winner but the post denied Latif Blessing as the game ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Both sides failed to find the back of the net in extra time and in the penalty shoot-out Okwawu United’s shot stopper Abass Mohammed was the hero for his side as he saved three kicks out of Liberty’s four kicks while Okwawu United in their four kicks scored three and missed one.
It will be the first time in 16 years Okwawu United had reached the final of the FA Cup after losing the trophy
