Employers Association to roll out Industrial Attachment Policy

The association presented a proposal to government to help bridge the skills gap between academia and industry.


The Ghana Employers Association has charged government to adopt the association's  Industrial Attachment Program.

Industry has recently complained about the inadequacies of graduates been churned out  of Ghana's universities. Whereas businesses feel there's a shortfall in competent graduates from the universities, universities on the other hand feel employers are not ready to contribute to the training of graduates.

The National Industrial Attachment Program when adopted by government and implemented will bridge the  competency gap.

Director of research at the Ghana Employers Association, Charles Asante Bempong said,

" The survey we conducted revealed that when it comes to the sciences, there is a vaccum in terms of graduates available to fill such positions. Likewise for technical positions. There are skills that are not available, especially in the technical sectors."

Mr. Asante Benpong added that the National Industrial Attachment will help address this by " giving opportunities for students to be attached to industry to learn from industry as part of resolving the problem."

The director of research at the Ghana Employers Association then challenged all stakeholders involved, such as employers, academia and government on how best to implement the policy.

" As we speak, we have presented the policy to minister of education which has already been submitted to parliament.
