DSTV pulls off TV show featuring transgender after parental complaints

A reality show about Caitlyn Jenner becoming a transgender woman will no longer be shown in Africa following complaints from viewers, its South African broadcaster said.

Broadcast service, Multichoice said that "I am Cait" would be dropped from the network's television schedule out of respect for its customers.

The decision follows a request from the Nigerian authorities.

Some parents in Nigeria had complained that they did not want their children to see the show which broadcasts across the continent on , a channel owned by Multichoice.

Caitlyn Jenner is the female identity of Bruce Jenner who was a top athlete and had won Olympic gold in the decathlon.

This reality TV personality announced his decision to become a woman in April 2015.

This is the second time that the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has asked the television to stop broadcasting a program on transsexuality.

Opponents of the decision believe that this could create a precedent in which one country can decide what viewers across the continent can watch.
