Man who fainted during 100 lashes for premarital sex was revived to take the rest before rushed to the hospital

Punishment is meant to reform an offender but in some jurisdictions, it must be meted out to whoever deserves it at all cost; even if it would result in death.

Man who fainted during 100 lashes for premarital sex was revived to take the rest before being rushed to the hospital

An Indonesian man reportedly fainted while being flogged on Thursday, December 5 for having pre-marital sex. However, interestingly, he was resuscitated to receive the rest of the hard strokes before he was finally rushed to the hospital.

Despite international condemnation, public flogging is common for a range of offences banned under local Islamic law in the conservative Aceh region on Indonesia‘s Sumatra island, including gambling, drinking alcohol, and having gay or premarital sex.

Aceh is the only region in Indonesia, the world’s biggest Muslim-majority country, that imposes religious law.

The 22-year-old man was one of three people who were sentenced to 100 strokes each by Sharia authorities in Indonesia for premarital sex.

While pleading for clemency, the young man fainted as a masked Sharia official continued whipping him.

They did everything within their means to revive him, gave him brief medical attention and then carried on with the whipping before he was eventually carried off the stage by two guards and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, reports say.

The flogging took place outside a mosque in Aceh Timur district where the woman with whom the fainted man had the sex was also caned 100 times as. Another man who also has sex with that same woman also received 100 lashes.

About 500 people who witnessed the whipping filmed it with their phones while shouting and urging the Sharia officials to flog the victims harder.
