Teacher who spends 80% of his salary on the needy is on his way to becoming a millionaire

It is true that when you give to the needy, you are not throwing away your resources, in fact you are giving it to God, and he has his own way of recompensing you.

Teacher who spends 80% of his salary on the needy is on his way to becoming a millionaire

This is exactly what is at play in the case of this Kenyan teacher, Peter Mokaya who teaches Maths and Physics at Keriko Secondary School.

The philanthropic teacher has been nominated among the best 10 tutors globally in the 2019 edition of prestigious Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize after beating other 10,000 applicants from 179 countries across the globe on Saturday, February 23, tuko.co.ke reports.

So, what has earned Mokaya this mouth-watering nomination? Reports say he spends a whopping 80% of his monthly salary on the less privilege in his community, a gesture the Varkey Foundation deemed as profound and worth recognising.

If he wins, Mokaya will be walking home with prize money of KSh 100 million (GHS 5,347,691.33).

He was advised by the head teacher of Keriko Secondary School to apply for the awards, but he was not sure of making any headway, he tried anyway.

His likely victory did not surprise his students and school administration who are confident that it is a done deal for Mokaya.

But what has Mokaya himself got to say about his apparent journey to wealth? "I am pleased, honoured and humbled to be selected from thousands of applicants from around the world to the top 10 list. I appreciate this great recognition on behalf of all the hard working teachers throughout the world whose great achievements go unnoticed,” he said.

The moral lesson here is that, let’s all get involved and contribute our quotas to put smile on the faces of the less privileged, and God in his own way will reward us commensurately.
