The cars were chosen based on the improvements made between the 2015 and 2016 models, value and engagement, performance and poise, sights and sounds, and soul and character.
Eddie Alterman, Car and Driver editor-in-chief, spoke on the annual list.
"The cars that earn this reward do more than merely succeed on one or two criteria. They come to us fully formed, polished, complete."

Mike Duff, writer for Car and Driver, spoke on the publication's decision to put Volkswagen, despite it's ongoing diesel emission scandal, on the list.
"We fully acknowledge that this is a controversial decision. But is it nevertheless the right one."

Although, Chevrolet Camaro was number three on this list, the vehicle has been named as Motor Trend's Car of the Year.
