The five-session workshops are a part of the Binghamton Poetry Project, a literary outreach program of the Binghamton Center for Writers that aims to educate youth and adults in reading and creative writing.
Participants will learn poetic techniques and will explore various types of poetry. They will also read published poems and will be encouraged to share original work with each other for encouragement and feedback.
Each workshop will last about an hour at the Broome County Public Library located at 185 Court Street in Binghamton.
The youth and children workshops, recommended for students grades 6 to 12, will be held the following Wednesdays: July 8, 15, 22, 29, and August 5.
Workshops will be offered to adults on the following Thursdays: July 9, 16, 23, 30, and August 6.
All participants will be invited to attend a final reading at Broome County Public Library Saturday, August 8 at 3 p.m.
“If it is nice, the reading will be out in our poetry garden,” said Broome County Public Library’s Children Librarian Michelle Ford. She added that participants will get booklets with their published poems at the end of the program.
