In case you didn’t know (and we don’t know why you would)
On Thursday night he got his chance as part of a special for “Red Nose Day.” If you’d never heard of Red Nose Day before, which I know I hadn’t, it’s an effort to raise money and awareness for childhood poverty. For the third year in a row, NBC promoted the annual charity day, and that’s why you had the special Celebrity Ninja Warrior For Red Nose Day last night before watching Julia Roberts roughneck it in the wild with Bear Grylls.
It was surprising in the sense that he completed the course. After all, even the celebrity version of the run is hard. Don’t believe us? Well, most other contestants had to tap out for at least one of the events.
But, not Amell. That’s probably why they saved him for last. To get 35K donated to charity, he had to consecutively power his way through obstacles like the fly wheels, battering ram, warp wall and (just to show off) the Salmon Ladder. However it wasn’t a surprise in the sense that, if an actor was going to pull it off, it’d be Amell. As the commentators mentioned, he does many of his own stunts and dude’s in great shape. Peep his superhero workout here.
As Entertainment Weekly pointed out, he also told Access Hollywood that his show had actually bitten ANW’s Salmon Ladder for the first episode of Arrow.
“It’s obviously such an iconic piece of American Ninja Warrior that the producers of the show and my show have been basically doing a dance for the past several years trying to figure out when and if I’d be available to do it because their season coincides with my season,” he admitted.
Welp, worked out well for him last night. And, maybe, again in the future. We say that because afterwards he talked about how f’in sweet doing the event was on his Facebook page. “I can’t think of a more fun way to raise money for Red Nose Day,” he wrote. “I might have to come back.”
Always leave that door open.
