Defending champion Alex Cejka heads into the Puerto Rico Open looking to create more fond memories and take another step towards Olympic Games qualification.

Cejka triumphed in a five-way play-off last year to claim his sole title on the PGA Tour.

The German has two top-10 finishes to his name in 2016 but goes into this year's edition of the tournament still suffering from a cut on the inside of his right index finger he sustained in an accident at home.

He will be playing alongside former world number one Luke Donald and Chesson Hadley for the first two rounds in Rio Grande.

As the second-highest ranked German behind Martin Kaymer, Cejka is in position to qualify for the Olympics in Rio, and with three months left until the team is finalised he has plenty of motivation to pick up strong results.

Cejka said: "Your first win is always something special. You start to believe in yourself; you have the [PGA] Tour card for two years. Every player kind of looks at you like you're now in the 'circle' because you've won. It's little details.

"You know for yourself that you can win, and it doesn't matter if it's here or if it's whatever tournament. It's tough to win. There's so many great players today, on every tour, but especially on our tour here. It was a great moment for me, and it's nice to come back and smell the air, get these memories

"The race is close [for the Olympics], but we have a couple of other players who could make it – Marcel Siem, [Maximilian] Kieffer - it's a tight race for the second spot. It would be interesting, and an honour to play in the Olympics."
