A Deputy Communications Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of using former Transport Minister’s comments to seek equalization.
He claimed that the NPP “wanted an opportunity to basically equalize for the deep, deep damage they have inflicted on the people of this country…because of positions they take concerning people of certain tribes in this country.”
Dzifa Ativor last week asked the people of the Volta Region to retain the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in power else, the NPP will imprison all ewe leading members of the NDC.
She cited Victor Selormey, Tsatsu Tsikata and Dan Abodakpi to back her claims.
However, she has been widely criticized by well-meaning Ghanaians including, ex-President John Rawlings who is the founder of the NDC, as well as the Clergy.
Social media users in Ghana also condemned her comments, while the NPP asked her to retract and apologise to the people of the Volta Region.
Speaking on Radio Gold, the Deputy Minister described the NPP’s posturing on the matter as a “charade.”
He said the main opposition party aside from seeking equalization, also aimed to divert attention from the damning Africa Watch interview granted by their immediate past national chairman, Paul Afoko.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu further alleged that some media houses affiliated to the NPP interpreted Mrs. Ativor’s comments wrongly to gain a specific reaction from the public.
Turning his attention to the clergy, Mr. Kwaky Ofosu said they are gradually “diminishing the moral basis upon which they are held in high esteem because of their own conduct.”
“When it happens on the NDC side, they are quick to jump into the fray to issue statements and condemn people but the most appalling statements in terms of ethno-tribal politics have emanated from the NPP and we did not see this zeal; the fanatical zeal with which people have encircled this Dzifa Ativor issue,” he remarked.
