Red Sox fire early against Athletics

Hanley Ramirez scored the second longest homer of the season as he helped the Boston Red Sox to a 13-5 win over the Oakland Athletics.

The Boston Red Sox made quick work of the Oakland Athletics in Tuesday's MLB action, as they triumphed 13-5 for their 20th win of the season.

Boston have now won three games in succession, with Hanley Ramirez's 468-foot homer the highlight alongside deep efforts from Travis Shaw and Mookie Betts.

The Chicago Cubs made it eight wins in a row courtesy of a narrow 8-7 win over the San Diego Padres after a strong running performance.

The Cubs recorded no homers from their 12 hits for the night but converted their chances with men on base, as Addison Russell and Ben Zobrist finished with two RBIs each.

The Detroit Tigers edged the Washington Nationals 5-4, the New York Yankees ran out 10-7 winners against the Kansas City Royals and the Milwaukee Brewers routed the Miami Marlins 10-2.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Phillies won a low-scoring affair against the Atlanta Braves 3-2 and the Baltimore Orioles knocked off the Minnesota Twins 5-3.

The Cleveland Indians beat the Houston Astros 4-0, the Arizona Diamondbacks won 5-1 against the Colorado Rockies, the Texas Rangers completed a remarkable comeback from 10-3 down to beat the Chicago White Sox 13-11 and the St Louis Cardinals defeated the Los Angeles Angles 8-1.

There were also wins for the Toronto Blue Jays, who shutout the San Francisco Giants 4-0, the Seattle Mariners overcame the Tampa Bay Rays 6-4 and the Los Angeles Dodgers had a 3-2 walk-off victory against the New York Mets.

The Pittsburgh Pirates' match against the Cincinnati Reds was postponed.

Red Sox designated hitter Ramirez hit a 468-foot home run, the second longest of the season. He finished the game three-for-four with three runs scored, a home run and two RBIs.
