Centurion KL Rahul eyes greater consistency for India

Rahul made his highest Test score – 158 – as India reached 358-5 at stumps on day two at Sabina Park, holding a 162-run lead.

His innings left India in a dominant position in the second Test in Kingston, Jamaica as they look to take a 2-0 series lead.

But the 24-year-old is keen to develop into a more consistent player, with his previous 10 Test innings including eight scores of under 17.

"The last couple of months, I've been performing well," Rahul said, via ESPNcricinfo.

"I've been consistent in all the three formats and that's what I want to do as a cricketer, to be consistent in all the three formats.

"Go out there, and play to the best of my abilities, and play my roles and responsibilities for the team."

The Windies kept India to just 232 runs on day two, with Roston Chase (2-91) and Shannon Gabriel (1-50) the pick of their bowlers.

Coach Phil Simmons was pleased with his bowlers and said it would be up to the batsmen to step up next.

"The only place we can go is to come tomorrow morning again and work hard to try and get the wickets that we have to get," he said.

"Then, the batsmen have to stand up because the bowlers have stood up today, and hopefully they come and stand up again tomorrow morning and we get the wickets we need.

"But it's up to the batsmen to stand up now."
