Jim Furyk is set to return to action at next week's Wells Fargo Championship, after being sidelined for seven months by a wrist injury.

Veteran American Furyk, a 17-time winner on the PGA Tour who lifted his sole major title to date at the 2003 U.S. Open, was forced to withdraw from last September's BMW Championship and subsequently underwent surgery in February on his left wrist.

However, the world number 24 is set to feature at Quail Hollow and also plans to compete in the following week's Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass – the PGA Tour's signature event.

Furyk's injury ensured he missed the 2015 Presidents Cup and this month's Masters at Augusta – ending his run of 47 successive appearances at majors.

He will now have the chance to push his claims for a 10th Ryder Cup outing after the PGA Tour confirmed his return on Friday.

Should Furyk fail to earn a place on the United States team as a player, he will serve as a vice-captain to Davis Love III.
