Jason Day put up a strong defence of his US PGA Championship title, but the composed Jimmy Walker was not to be denied a first major win.

Jimmy Walker's superb wire-to-wire victory at the US PGA Championship has seen him climb 33 places to number 15 in the Official World Golf Rankings.

The American held off the charge of defending champion and world number one Jason Day to secure his first major win at Baltusrol.

Walker's reward for a nerveless showing in New Jersey is reflected in a big rise in the rankings, the 37-year-old climbing from 48 to 15.

It marks Walker's return to the world's top 20 for the first time in 2016, while he also climbs to fourth in the points list for United States' Ryder Cup team.

South African Branden Grace tied fourth and he climbs into the top 10 at the expense of Sergio Garcia, while Daniel Summerhays - who finished third - is up 36 places to world number 53, with Martin Kaymer back in the top 50 at 49, having tied for seventh.
