The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has described as illegal the indefinite strike of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).
According to TEWU, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has failed to take steps to bridge the excessive gap between salaries of senior and junior staff of public universities.
At a meeting held separately with TEWU and FWSC on Wednesday, January 20, the National Labour Commission, NLC demanded that the strike be called off immediately.
Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has subsequently supported the calls of the NLC, asking members of TEWU to resume work while negotiations continue.
"...Issuing threats of a certain nature when there is a discussion or negotiation going on is like holding a gun on the head of the other party and insisting that you must either get what you want or the strike continues,” Public Relations Officer of the Commission Earl Ankrah has told Accra-based Joy FM.
"The law of the Republic of Ghana frowns on that and so Labour Commission is right so they would have to call off the strike before we engage them.
"If the leadership of TEWU is really serious about resolving the issue with workers then they would go through the right processes," Earl Ankrah added.
