Jordan Ayew joins Sheffield United on a two-year deal

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has joined Sheffield United on a free transfer after leaving Leicester City, returning to the Championship for the 2026/27 season.

The 34-year-old forward returns to the Championship after leaving Leicester City following their relegation from the Premier League.
Ayew is expected to link up with the Blades immediately and add experience to Sheffield United’s attack.

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has joined English Championship side Sheffield United after completing his medical.

The 34-year-old forward has agreed a deal with the Blades until the end of the 2026/27 season, with clauses that could allow the contract to be extended. Sheffield United announced his signing on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

“The Blades have filled the 25-man squad by completing the signing of an international striker whose last game was in the World Cup. The formalities have been completed on Jordan Ayew signing a one-year deal and he links up Chris Wilder's squad immediately,” Sheffield United said in a statement.

Ayew became a free agent after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season. His contract with the Foxes expired following their relegation, leaving him available to join another club outside the transfer window.

Speaking on the signing on Jordan Ayew, Head coach Boss Wilder said:

I spoke last week about being close to getting someone in from the free agent market and things did move quite quickly so I am really pleased to have Jordan with us.

"We're talking about someone here with bags of experience from right at the top level of the game,” he added.

Speaking on his signing Jordan stated that he was excited about the move and did not think twice before accepting the deal. He also pledged to give out his best during his time.

It happened really, really quick because I was in Ghana and the manager called me last week.

I didn't think twice, I just took the opportunity, and the most important thing is for me to help the team and obviously for us to have a great season. I have a lot of desire this season to make an impact and to help the team because we have a good squad and there's a lot of positive things we can do.

The move comes after talks with Blackburn Rovers failed to produce an agreement. Sheffield United then made a late approach for the experienced Ghanaian, who travelled to England to complete the transfer.

The Ghanaian international has spent more than a decade playing in England, with previous spells at Aston Villa, Swansea City, Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
